A Mini Break on the French Riviera

From
www.grand-tourist.com, choose from a variety of luxury tours tailored to your particular requirements.
"There's something magical about the South of France, with its Mediterranean shores, blue sea and blue skies.  Driving along the coast road, in a convertible, with the wind in your hair is like stepping back in time.  It was here in the 50s that Grace Kelly and Cary Grant cruised during the filming of 'To Catch a Thief'.
Grand Tourist can arrange for you to pick up a car at the airport or one can be delivered to your hotel.  We would suggest a drive east from Nice towards the medieval hill-top village of Eze which has the most stunning panoramic views of the coast, stretching from Menton in the east to St. Tropez in the west.  Here there is a choice of fine dining & great hotels."
Contact Grand Tourist for more information on this and many other great package tours in France and other European destinations.

La Tour Eiffel
Eiffel Tower
The Eiffel Tower was designed by Gustave Eiffel and completed in 1889 for the World's Fair. Gustave Eiffel originally planned to build the tower in Barcelona but officials there thought it was too expensive and strange.

At the time of completion, it was the world's tallest structure at 1,063 feet. The reproduction of the tower in Las Vegas is about half as tall.

Gustave Eiffel also designed bridges and designed the armature (internal structure) for the Statue of Liberty.

The tower has a world renowned restaurant called the "Jules Verne" which is now run by celebrity chef Alain Ducasse.

In 1902, lightning struck the tower causing damage to the top and in 1944 as the Allies neared Paris, Hitler ordered the tower destroyed but the governor of Paris disobeyed the order.

In 1985, the James Bond movie "A View To A Kill" was filmed on the tower and in the Jules Verne Restaurant.

There have been about 230,000,000 visitors since it was built.

  BEAUTIFUL EZE VILLAGE

Eze is one of the most beautiful villages in France. It was first established around 2000 BC. Perched on a cliff 427 m. (or 1300 feet) above the Mediterranean Sea and just between Nice and Monaco, it has become world renowned for its breathtaking views of the sea, picturesque shops, restaurants and art galleries. Eze has been coveted by so many people and countries over the years that it has been controlled and occupied by the Romans, Moors, French and Turkish troops as well as others, over the centuries. Since 1860, it has been part of France.

The abundant vegetation including views of "Les Jardins Exotiques," the shops, homes, and restaurants carved out of rock walls, and the views of the Mediterranean Sea from Italy to St. Tropez make this medieval village truly spectacular.

For an unforgettable hotel stay or restaurant meal in Eze, the Château de la Chèvre d'Or is a perfect choice. The Chèvre d'Or restaurant (two Michelin Stars) offers superb French cuisine and incredible views of the sea. Master Chef Philippe Labbé prepares Mediterranean accented meals using only fresh, local and seasonal products. The Chèvre d'Or hotel takes full advantage of its stunning location with decks, rose and jasmine-filled gardens, and an outdoor pool which gives full views of the Mediterranean Sea, with Monte Carlo to your left and St. Tropez to your right.

The "Bar du Château" and its outdoor terraces are a perfect place for a glass of wine, and good conversation. For more information and photos, please visit www.chevredor.com

Eze is about 18 km from Nice airport and must be seen!

Eurotunnel: A great way to travel between France and England
http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=fxpwsicab.0.0.cdaffgcab.0

For many years going back to Napoleon's time, various people have proposed linking England and France by an undersea tunnel. These ideas were never fulfilled because of the cost and complexity as well as for military reasons. Some were concerned about the ease with which invaders could reach England from France. In 1955 England ruled out these military concerns but it was not until 1987 that both the French and British governments agreed to proceed with the Chunnel project. The project had been guided through the use of laser surveying methods in which tunneling was conducted simultaneously from both ends of the English Channel. In 1994 the Channel tunnel was completed through the hard work of about 13,000 people.  For more information visit: www.eurotunnel.com

Interesting facts about the Chunnel:

5 million cubic yards of earth were excavated to the British side and used to create about 90 acres of land from the sea.

The Chunnel has three tunnels, two for the Eurostar train and one service tunnel.

The Chunnel is about 31 miles long and is about 150 feet under the seabed.

About 9 million passengers per year travel on the Eurostar train.

The estimated cost of this project was about $20 billion dollars.
